Toxicology is the study of chemicals in the body of a victim that may be the cause of death or contribute to a crime.  Poisons are the best example of a finding that may be found in a victim in a homicide investigation, but also may be found in a victim of an attempted homicide.  Finding drugs in the system of a victim is also an example of the use of toxicology in an investigation.  There are offenders that will use drugs to incapacitate a victim to create vulnerability and lessen the chances of resistance or identification.
