Deviant crimes can be viewed through the mind of the offender to help researchers and investigators better understand the individual or type of individual that commit these sort of crimes. Many times offenders display characteristics of several mental disorders such as psychopathy or sadism, which may help explain the callousness of the acts. In addition to mental disorders, there are often common fantasies or psychological needs found in these offenders that seem to perpetuate their crimes. Understanding the psychopathology of the offender assists in attempting to make predictions of future offenses and creating treatment alternatives. The links to the sections above talk about the psychological aspects of crimes and offenders.
