Ever since Jack the Ripper caught the attention of the world in 1888 (and most likely before), the media has sensationalized deviant crimes. The public is often horrified by acts such as murder and rape, yet at the same time is fascinated by them. Evidence of this fascination comes from the success of blockbuster movies like Silence of the Lambs and The Accused, television programs such as Profiler, and best-selling books by former FBI profilers.
